September 2009 news
As of Sunday
5th July we signed a contract with a local builder for a new classroom.
Some of the funding to build this classroom was a donation from the Lions Club
(Burwood) - Australia. We are looking to hold the first classes in mid
September. By end of August the roof was in place so we are only 1 or 2
weeks away from completion.

Also...
As always, a BIG thank you to DHL - the children are
seen here opening boxes containing donated books - exercise books, stationery
and educational toys from Emanuel School (Randwick) - Australia. The
children also received uniforms from Wylie's School wear (Maroubra) - Australia.
The Parents at Emanuel School are instrumental in
organising the drive that brings in our donations of educational toys,
stationery and other school requirements.

Finally...

Local teachers at Golgota Community School received 4 bicycles - the
funding for the bicycles came from private donations, these included staff from
Nestle Australia and a large donation Tahiti (parents of an intern who worked at
Nestle) A big thank you to all.

May 2009 news
This month we have again received generous donations, some from as far a field as Tahiti. Following is an indication on what these donations are doing for our schools :- School uniforms for both girls and boys
- Educational toys
- Smart clothing for both girls and boys
- Funds to purchase at least 3 bicycles for the teachers.
A massive thank you to DHL, who again, will airfreight some of these donations from Sydney to Ndola at no charge.
If you would like to donate financially or with time...........

Website goes live
In March 2009 this site has gone live thanks to the efforts of Rachel Holst, Polly Eady and Scott Bassingthwaighte. It is hoped this site will become a method of communicating with our supporters what is happening with the organisation as well as a way to find new people who want to help either by donating time or money.Jacob's Well
In September 2007 the organisation sunk a well (Jacob's Well) for clean water for both the community school and surrounding community. This has helped raise the standard of health and wellness in the community.
An American Christian Organisation called Seeds of Hope has rigs on the ground in Zambia and they do contract work for anyone who wants to have a well sunk. Rachel Holst approached their head office in California and they agreed to do the work at Kabushi, Ndola. Rachel raised the funds through public donations in Australia and Lifewater Canada assisted with part of the funding to get Jacob's Well sunk. Jacob's Well was sunk in October 2007 and officially launched in November 2007 Rachel used, as inspiration, the Bible narrative of the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well. She felt there is an analogy between what she was doing and her faith regarding the Bible teaching, i.e. there's not much point trying to help the children with literacy skills if their practical thirst for clean water is not met. Jacob's Well has had a big and positive impact in the community.
The children now
have clean water to drink while they are at school The
surrounding community draws water from Jacob's Well which
has raised the standard of health and wellness, providing clean
water for 250 students and about 500 families. For example, in
September 2008 the local council's reservoir had been closed for
4 days due to an accident when one of the workers fell in the
dam and drowned; Jacob's Well was the source of clean water for
an extended area well and beyond that usually served by the
Well.
